My fireplace has a smooth cement type hearth which has developed a couple stains. One stain was from cleaning the soot covered glass insert. The other is from a wooden decoration which apparently had some pine pitch. I’ve tried the floor dry stuff that’s supposed to clean oil from your garage floor. No help there. [...]

I’m trying to remove a Hawke wood burning fire place insert from my mother-in-laws and put in in my fireplace. I measured it and it should fit, but I have no idea where to start. Any ideas? It cannot climb back out because of the slippery metal insert. Could it climb out if I lowered a rope down there? A home we recently bought has a great stone fireplace. Unfortunately, the last owners spilled candlewax on the stone mantel. We’ve tried a ton of different things to try and remove it, from stain removers to scraping. Any success stories out there? Ideas? Please share! Thanks! I never use my gas fireplace because of the cost of natural gas however I would like to take my gas logs out, shut off the gas and make it wood burning. Is that possible/safe? It is an all brick fireplace and chimney.
